Noise is commonly conceived of as an aural phenomenon, but it can also refer to an overabundance of visual stimulae. Pop often connotes a style of music, but it may also bring to mind pop-art, or function as a verb, used to describe a quick or unexpected action. In its origins, it refer to popular taste, and, derivatively, the common; conversely, it may be used to describe what is fresh and hip, if fleeting. This installation seeks to explore the less used aspects of these words with a series of actions composed of both the mundane and the unexpected. In filling the room with silent noise, the installation serves to reflect on and bring nuance to the theme of the festival.
POP + NOISE was created for the same-titled theme of the Cluster's 2013 festival.
Pop + bruit
Le bruit correspond communément à un phénomène de l’ouïe, mais peut aussi décrire une surabondance de stimulus visuel. Le mot Pop représente souvent un genre de musique, mais peut aussi rappeler le pop’art, servir de verbe et décrire une action soudaine ou surprenante. À l’origine, ce mot décrit des préférences populaires ou par dérivée, le commun. Il peut même, au contraire, décrire ce qui est rafraîchissant, nouveau et branché, voir éphémère. Cette installation cherche à explorer ses sens et connotations moins utilisés avec une série d’actions composée du banal et de l’inattendu. En remplissant la salle de bruit silencieux, l’installation amène à réfléchir et nuancer sur le thème du festival.
Pop + bruit a été créé pour le thème du même nom de l’édition 2013 du festival Cluster.
